Social media brings protests and problems in Asia – level 1

01-10-2025 07:00

In Asia, many people join protests. In Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, leaders lose power. In Nepal and Indonesia, there are fights in the street. Young people use social media like TikTok to talk and make plans.

Young people want a better future. Social media is fast, but it also gives false stories. In Nepal, videos show the rich children of politicians having holidays. Poor young people get angry. Some false posts say that the army takes power or that a temple is in danger. A map shows where politicians live, and some houses burn.

People worry that this can happen again. With elections soon, false news can cause more problems.

Difficult words: future (the time that will come), poor (not having enough money or things to live well), election (when people vote for new leaders).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why were poor young people in Nepal angered by videos showing politicians’ children on holiday?
