Why people stutter – level 1

01-02-2024 15:00

Some people stutter. A stutter changes how they speak. Sometimes they cannot say some words. Sometimes they repeat the same word more times. Or they make pauses when they speak.

More than 70 million people stutter in all world. Five percent of children stutter at some time in their lives. Most of them stop. Some people stutter all life.

Scientists say that these people have different brains. The situation is very difficult to change. Also, more people in the same family stutter. It is common. Men stutter more often than women.

People learn some techniques to speak better. They must understand that they can’t change their brain. Also, they must understand that what you say is more important than how you say it.

Difficult words: pause (the time between two actions), common (usual), technique (how people do something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What techniques can people who stutter learn to improve their speech, and how important is it for them to understand that they cannot change their brain?
