A man touches an orca – level 1

27-05-2024 07:00

A man in New Zealand must pay 600 dollars. He jumps off a boat. He touches an orca.

There is a video of this incident on social media. Other people are on the boat. A male orca and a baby orca are swimming nearby. The people laugh and cheer when the man jumps in the water. The incident happens near Devonport, Auckland. The man is 50 years old.

There are only a few orcas in New Zealand. People must protect them. It is against the law to touch the animals or swim with them. Authorities say that it is also dangerous for both people and the animals. It is a stupid thing to do.

Difficult words: cheer (to be happy and shout), protect (to keep safe), law (rules of a country).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the penalty for the man in New Zealand who jumped off a boat and touched an orca, and why is this action considered illegal and dangerous?
