Some cars are not safe - level 2

The Institute for Highway Safety carried out a new safety car crash test.

The tested cars crashed into a five-foot (1.5 metres) barrier which was mostly on the driver's side. The speed of the cars was 40 miles per hour (64 kilometres per hour). The results weren't good. Half of the tested vehicles were rated "poor." A quarter of front crashes result in serious injury or death.

Half of the 12 small cars tested didn't do well in the test. But the two-door and four-door models of the Honda Civic did very good.

Difficult words: carry out (do), barrier (something in your way that can stop you), vehicle (machine for transport, for example a car), rate (give a mark).

You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
